  • New To Nail Gun Depot: Stabila Levels & Lasers

New on Nail Gun Depot, have you seen our selection of Stabila construction levels and laser levels? Don't trust your next project to a good guess, get the accuracy only a level can provide. Choose from a wide variety of levels and lasers, including a full selection of spirit levels, mason levels, magnetic levels, plate levels, pocket levels, torpedo levels, exact length levels, electronic levels and more. Tripods, repair kits and other accessory items are also now available.
    Stabila Spirit Levels
Let's take a quick look at what each type of level does:
    Stabila Logo
Spirit Level: Spirit levels fill the broadest range of what can be defined as a construction level or measuring level. Speaking in the most general terms, a spirit level is a measuring device that can determine an exact measurement of levelness based on the placement of an air pocket within a horizontal (level) and/or a vertical (plumb) vial. Most levels are technically spirit levels. You'll generally see levels categorized on Nail Gun Depot as spirit levels if they don't fill another niche application.
    Stabila R-Beam Spirit Level
Fun Fact: Spirit levels were created by a French inventor and have been around since the Mid-1600's.
Plate Level: Plate levels are also spirit levels, but they are designed specifically to measure the degree of levelness at wall plates. This type of construction level is intended for those that do wall framing or work with structural framing. The Stabila plate level(s) we offer feature extendable bodies that can nearly double in length. A reinforced frame allows these plate levels to easily measure plate to plate wall height for either commercial or residential applications.
    Stabila Plate Level
Torpedo Level: On the other end of the spectrum, torpedo levels are much more compact, designed for applications in carpentry or anywhere else a compact spirit level is required. Stabila also offers magnetic torpedo levels, providing a superior grip on pipes, conduit, posts or any other metal surface that is magnetic. Torpedo levels are an excellent option for anyone who wants a compact spirit level to use around the house or shop.
    Stabila Torpedo Level
Pocket Level: Similar to torpedo levels, pocket levels are designed to be small enough that you can simply stuff them into your pocket. While a pocket level isn't nearly as rugged or durable as some of the other level types listed in this article, contractors are attracted to the simplicity and portability of these nifty little gadgets. Pocket levels are more of an accessory item for a general contractor or carpenter; something they can keep in their pocket and easily transport from job to job.
    Stabila Pocket Level
Mason Level: Mason levels are designed for bricklaying or similar applications. With a reinforced frame, strike zones designed specifically for being hit with a trowel, an easy to clean body (for removing mortar), and much more, Stabila mason levels are extra rugged, yet equally as versatile.
    Stabila Mason Level
Magnetic Level: We've briefly touched on the capabilities of a magnetic level already, but just to reiterate, these levels are mostly designed for applications where you need to measure the degree of levelness for a surface that is made of magnetic metal. This applies to steel framing - among other uses. Stabila magnetic levels are capable of adhering to a magnetic surface upside down, designed for hands-free capability.
    Stabila Magnetic Levels
Exact Length Level: Exact length levels are similar to plate levels, and are part of the spirit level family, but are designed specifically for door and window installation. Stabila XtL exact length levels cover more than 80% of all door and window installations. Stabila XtL expands and locks to the exact size needed for any project. Two Stabila XtL levels cover the same range as the 5-6 level sets normally carried by door and window installers. Consider exact length models a big level in a small package.
    Stabila XtL Level
Electronic Level: Electronic levels are designed for tech savvy contractors. Featuring electronic measuring technology, two digital displays, an audible inclination guide, and a dust/waterproof body, Stabila electronic levels are the way of the future. Between fast, accurate readings - and the ability to instantly convert measurements - who wouldn't want an electronic level? Just keep in mind, these are not the least expensive option available - but they do offer unique benefits that can't be found on any other type of construction level.
    Stabila Electronic Level
Laser Level: Laser measuring instruments, also known as laser levels, are the answer to an ever changing construction industry, where materials, assembly systems, the interaction of the various trades, time and cost pressures are constantly on the move. Laser levels do the same job as their spirit level counterpart, the fundamental difference being, laser levels project a non-permanent laser beam of light onto a surface in a perfectly level formation. Depending on the intensity of the laser beam, the direction(s) it is required to display, and other unique characteristics, prices on these nifty devices can range from a couple hundred dollars, all the way into the thousands.

  • The Box Stapler Buying Guide For Packaging & Shipping

You might be wondering, why haven't I heard of a carton stapler before? The simple answer, unless you manage a packing, shipping, or carton assembly operation - you probably haven't come in contact with one of these tools. Want to know what a carton closing stapler is good for? Well, it's all in the name. Learn more about the different types of carton closers and box staplers, applications they excel at, and tips to consider before purchasing - available on the Nail Gun Network.
    Bostitch Carton Closer Diagram
Before selecting a carton stapler, you need to consider what it will be used for. Aside from the obvious - for use with cardboard - you will want to review the average volume of your operation, intervals of use, the thickness of cardboard or corrugated you are working with, and more. For business owners packing and shipping cardboard boxes in volume, most rely on their carton closing staplers to keep their operation running. Carton staplers offer increased revenue potential, efficiency, and provide a stronger seal versus other fastening agents.
To start, take a look at the thickness of your cardboard. Cardboard boxes are typically available in single, double or triple walls. Most carton staplers can handle single walled cardboard with ease. If you are working with double or triple wall cardboard, you will need a box stapler specifically designed for thicker applications, such as the Bostitch BTFP12182 Triple Wall Carton Closing Stapler or one of the ISM 3G Series box closing tools.
    Bostitch Carton Staple Diagram
Next, look at your operation's volume. For low volume packaging, a manual carton closing stapler might be sufficient to get the job done. For medium to high volume production, you will need either a pneumatic, electric or cordless carton stapler. In high volume applications, the option for roll staples versus the standard stick of staples is also available.
Choosing the right staple for the task is key. The wider the crown and thicker the wire - the more secure the staple will be. Pay careful attention to the type of staple required for your application - this will ultimately determine the range of carton tools you can choose from. Look at the wire dimension (thickness), the crown (width), and the leg length.
Now that we know the basics in choosing a carton stapler, let's look at the different types of packaging staplers that are available.

    Top Carton Staplers

Generally speaking, top carton staplers are the most common box closing staplers - especially in low to medium volume packing and shipping facilities. Top carton staplers are excellent for high and low volume carton closing and packaging. Depending on the set up of your workspace, several businesses utilize cordless carton closers, such as the 12-Volt battery powered models by Bostitch, to decrease production time and improve versatility (remember, no hoses or cords).
    Bostitch Box Staplers

    Plier Staplers

These self clinching staplers are designed for industrial applications in packaging, bedding, displays, set up boxes and more. Recommended for light assembly, packaging, corrugated construction and shoe-making. Plier staplers are primarily intended for manufacturing. Choose between models from Klinch-Pak, Senco, BeA, Bostitch and more.
    Senco Clinch Stapler

    Post Bottomer Carton Staplers

Post bottom carton staplers are strictly industrial in their function. These box staplers are designed to tackle a variety of cardboard and corrugated stapling applications on assembly lines, or in designated work stations. Post bottomers are too heavy and bulky to be moved around frequently, so they are generally only used in businesses where production is in a fixed location. Choose between manually operated models, which include several options from Josef Kihlberg, or pneumatic models such as the Bostitch F84-138 manual box bottomer carton stapler.
    Josef Kihlberg Post Bottomer

    Bench Mounted Carton Staplers

Bench mounted carton staplers are designed for light assembly, typically in manufacturing. They are excellent for clinching end flaps together, five-panel folds, overlap box closure, bag closure, tagging, shoes, and other cardboard applications requiring light assembly. Nail Gun Depot features a variety of BeA bench mounted carton staplers.

Senco PC1010 - The Senco PC1010 continues to serve the tool and fastener industry as one of its most popular compressors. This compact, hand-carry air compressor is ideal for anyone from amateur woodworkers to expert craftsmen. Don't plan on taking the PC1010 to framing job (you'll need a larger compressor for that), but for anyone powering a pneumatic finish and trim tool, this is the compressor for you. Featuring an oil-free pump, this Senco compressor is lightweight (only 20 pounds), durable and compact - oh and did we mention it's quiet too?
    Senco PC1010
Senco Fusion FN65DA - Some prefer to eliminate the air compressor all-together. Cutting the cords and moving beyond the limitation of an electrical outlet is quite appealing to many woodworkers and DIYer's - especially those on-the-go. For them, the Senco Fusion F-15 FN65DA cordless finish nailer remains a top-choice for finish and trim applications. Featuring an 18-V Lithium Ion battery that can drive up to 600 shots per charge - with a recharge time of approximately 45 minutes - the Senco Fusion is a great tool for hard to reach finish and trim work.
    Senco Fusion
Paslode T250A-F16 - An oldie but a goodie, the Paslode T250A-F16 continues to impress customers (DIY and professional) with its sturdy design and long-lasting lifespan. Ideal for finish and trim applications, don't plan on needing to replace this tool any time soon. This pneumatic nailer pairs nicely with the PC1010 compressor.
    Paslode T250A-F
Bostitch MFN201 - A tool that does not require a battery or compressor, the Bostitch MFN201 manual hardwood flooring nailer relies on human muscle - rather than alternative sources for power. Arguably the most popular flooring tool we carry, there must be some method to the madness. With a seven-year Bostitch warranty, the MFN201 flooring kit includes a graphite mallet, two flooring shoes (for 1/2" and 5/8" flooring), a heavy-duty carrying case, and hex wrenches. The MFN201 has proven itself a solid flooring nailer for solid hardwood floors.

  • Find The Right Pallet Nailer: The Pallet Nailer Buyer's Guide

You've probably heard of framing nailers, but what about their not-so-distant cousin, the pallet nailer? Pallet nailers look and function very similar to a framing nailer - the only difference being these special nail guns are designed for industrial applications, such as building and repairing pallets and crates. Typically available for use with coil nails, there are also a few strip nailers available for pallets and crating - such as the Bostitch BRT130, the MAX HS130 or the Fasco F91A RHN20.
    Pallets & Crates
The biggest difference that separates a pallet nailer from other types of nail guns is in its intended use - for industrial and manufacturing applications. Whereas a framing nailer is typically found on a construction site, pallet and crating nailers are typically found in warehouses or high-production facilities. These heavy-duty tools are built for high-volume use - built extra tough to handle the rigors of frequent, repetitive use for several hours at a time. Some pallet nailer variations, such as the MAX CN70PAL (available for special order only, on NGD), are built with specific applications in mind. The CN70PAL is an identical tool to the popular MAX CN70, the only difference being the CN70PAL is missing its magazine. Eliminating the magazine on this tool allows it to become extra versatile - for automated manufacturing use.
    MAX CN70PAL
Our top picks for pallet nailing applications, check out a variety of different models available from Everwin, MAX and Senco. With several models available, depending on the fastener size desired, each of these manufacturers has something special to offer its end user.
    Coil Nails
Known for quality and cost-effectiveness, Everwin is a relatively new brand to the market - but don't let that fool you, these tools are built with a high level of quality and integrity. Get the quality and durability of other name brands - at a fraction of the cost. Choose between the Everwin PN57, the PN57PP, the PN70 or the PN100 - with additional models expected to launch later this month.
    Everwin Pallet Nailers
A familiar name in framing, pallet nailing and roofing - MAX offers a lineup of time-tested, industry proven pallet and crate nail guns. Choose between the MAX CN55, the MAX CN70, the MAX CN80, the MAX CN100 and the previously mentioned MAX HS130. With tools available for a range of 1" to 4" pallet nails, there is a MAX pallet nailer for every manufacturing operation.
    MAX USA Tools
Another industry-leader, Senco offers a full-line of pallet nailers including the PalletPro 57F, the PalletPro 100, the PalletPro 130 and the SCN65XP. Senco's claim to fame, look for the bright red body color on its recently updated lineup of framing and pallet tools - as well as many other Senco Brand products. Senco also offers a five-year limited warranty on some of its pallet nailers - and all of its XP series tools - so you can have the peace of mind knowing your tool will be running for years to come.

  • The Staple Gun Buying Guide

Are you shopping for a pneumatic stapler? Maybe you already own one, but want to see what else is out there? If you are researching staple guns, look no further.

As much as we love to talk about nail guns - after all, it's in our name - today, let's take a look at the various staple guns and pneumatic staplers that are available for construction, renovation and manufacturing.

    Staples Variety
Let's start with one of the most commonly referenced segments within the staple gun industry - construction staplers. Available in several variations - depending on the application - you can choose between fine wire, narrow crown, medium crown and wide crown staplers. Fine wire construction staplers are generally used for furniture upholstery, light wood assembly, roof paper and insulation. Using a slightly larger staple, narrow crown staple guns or finish staplers are designed for applications that include: cabinets, casebacks, drawers, sheathing, underlayment, molding and trim. Next in line, medium crown staplers are capable of handling larger, more intense projects including: floor decking, roof sheathing, soft wall sheathing, subflooring, pallet construction, vinyl siding and insulation installation. The last and largest (size) segment of construction stapler, wide crown staple guns are built to handle the toughest of tough applications. These heavy-duty staplers are built for insulation sheathing, wire lathing, housewrap, attaching corrugated to pallets, furniture and cabinet frame assembly, or any other application that requires a wide crown staple. If you are looking for a solid, durable construction stapler, consider the MAX TA238A for smaller finish and trim applications, or the Senco WC150XP for larger projects.

    Senco WC150XP
For less intense projects - primarily those that include upholstering or securing fabric - an upholstery stapler will be your best option. You will find that upholstery staplers commonly overlap with their fine wire construction stapler cousin. If you are strictly planning to use this pneumatic (or electric) tool for attaching upholstery, make sure the tool is specifically designed for upholstering - versus assembly. These staplers are particularly useful for furniture and vehicle upholstery, light wood assembly, dust covers, cabinet backs, felt insulation, roofing felt, molding, bedding and packaging. Our friends at ModHomeEc recommend the Duo-Fast EIC-3118 Electric Stapler (replaced by Fasco-Maestri 7C-16 3/8" Crown Electric Stapler - 63100) for the novice - or a BeA Long Nose Upholstery Stapler for long-term, skilled use. You can read their entire review of Nail Gun Depot here.

    Duo-Fast Upholstery Stapler
For packaging and shipping, carton closing staplers are specifically designed to seal corrugated boxes and packaging materials. These tools are almost always found in warehouses or shipping facilities. For small to medium usage, consider a top carton stapler or plier stapler for package closing. For heavy-duty, high volume use, look to a larger carton closing tool - designed for manufacturing and assembly - such as a bench mounted carton stapler or post bottomer carton stapler. In the Nail Gun Depot shipping department, we are currently using Bostitch's latest cordless top carton closers, the DSW-3519 and DSW-3522.

    Bostitch Cordless Carton Closing Stapler
Hammer staplers, also known as hammer tackers, are most commonly used for carpet, roof paper and housewrap installation. Similar to a hammer, these staplers are actuated each time the user brings the tool into contact with a surface - using a driving force. We recommend a variation of the Duo-Fast hammer tacker (replaced by Powernail HT-750 classic hammer stapler) for carpeting. For roofing or siding, consider a Stinger cap stapler.

    Powernail Hardwood Floor Stapler
Branching out from the typical staple gun(s) a builder or remodeler would come in contact with, there are several specialty staple guns available - such as bedding staplers and bar code staplers. Among a class of specialty fastening tools - mainly for manufacturing applications - bedding staplers are used for the production and manufacturing of mattresses and box spring sets. Designed for a different - yet equally important set of applications - bar code staplers (also known as label staplers) are used in construction, pallet/crating, packaging and residential interiors. Designed for stapling bar code tags to lumber, the BeA 380/10-400 is a powerful new addition to Nail Gun Depot's lineup of specialty tools.
