  • Introducing Hitachi's All-New 18V Lithium-Ion Cordless Finish...

Hitachi Power Tools committed to cutting the cord, when they announced the newest additions to their finish nailer lineup last week. The brand proudly introduces a new series of battery-powered cordless, Brushless models; the NT1850DE 18-Gauge 2” Cordless Brad Nailer, the NT1865DM 16-Gauge 2-1/2” Cordless Straight Finish Nailer, and the NT1865DMA 15-Gauge 2-1/2” Cordless Angled Finish Nailer. All will be available starting January 2017. This series combines Hitachi’s reputation for quality pneumatic nailers, with its unique Lifetime Tool Warranty on cordless products, to deliver the quality and performance customers demand from Hitachi.

    Hitachi Cordless Finish Nailer

Get more done with less, and experience total fastening freedom with Hitachi. Lose the air hose, the compressor and gas fuel cartridges. This series of Hitachi cordless finish nailers is powered exclusively by Hitachi’s all-new, upgraded 3.0Ah compact lithium-ion battery, which delivers comparable power at roughly half the weight. This new battery has the same capacity as a conventional 3.0Ah Li-Ion battery, but benefits from a shortened height - nearly ¾ of an inch - and weighing 0.6 lbs. less (compared to Hitachi's previous battery), making the work experience lighter, more comfortable and more convenient. These batteries are also equipped with Hitachi’s Multiplex Protection Circuit to prevent over-load, over-charge and over-discharge, which further extends the lifetime of the battery. Add the fact they are fully compatible with all other Hitachi 18V Li-Ion slide type tools, for even more flexibility across Hitachi’s cordless line. Each Hitachi cordless finish nailer comes with one 3.0Ah lithium ion battery.

The battery charger (model UC18YFSL) cools the battery during the charging cycle to prevent overheating, and comes with a red light indicator to clearly indicate the stage of charging the battery has achieved.

    Hitachi Cordless Finish Nail Gun

Moving past the battery, all cordless nailers in this series also feature Hitachi's Brushless motor technology; for longer run time, less maintenance and increased durability. The driving system used is similar to Hitachi’s pneumatic line, featuring a unique air spring drive system that uses compressed air to drive each nail. This results in zero ramp up time, increased shooting speed, recoil that feels like a pneumatic nailer, quicker response time between fastener shots, better flush driving- even at an angle, and easy maintenance.

Each finish nailer comes with an on-tool battery charge indicator and easily adjustable tool-less depth-of-drive dial - perfect for adapting to woods of varying density. Additionally, each has a selective actuation switch that lets the user select between sequential mode or bump fire mode, when rapid nailing is preferred. A convenient tool-less, easy-to-clear nose makes it quick and simple to extract a nail should one jam during use.

    Hitachi Cordless Finish Gun

An integrated pivoting belt hook adds convenience, and can be adjusted to fit on either side of the nailer (excludes the NT1865DMA). A no-mar nose cap protects the work surface from markings, while narrow nose pieces help facilitate nail placement in hard to reach areas and tight corners. A built-in LED light on each nailer comes in handy when working low light areas. Ergonomically formed, a soft grip handle is designed for comfort during extended use. For added safety, located on the control panel at the base of the handle is a power button. When activated, the nailer is ready for use. It automatically shuts off power after 30 minutes of inactivity. Also, a side-lock switch is incorporated to prevent accidental firing. To sum things up, Hitachi went the extra mile to ensure these cordless finish and brad guns are durable, safe and easy to use.

To further support that notion, Hitachi is offering a Lifetime Lithium-Ion Tool Warranty on each of these cordless, Brushless finish nailers. A 2-year Lithium-Ion Battery Warranty and 1-year Lithium-Ion Charger Warranty are also included, for ultimate peace of mind.

The NT1850DE cordless 18-gauge brad nailer accepts a versatile 5/8” to 2” range of 18-gauge brad nails. Tackle trim work, furniture assembly and other finish applications with ease, when using the Hitachi NT1850DE. At only 7.3 lbs, this brad nailer is lightweight, well-balanced, and capable of driving up to 1,650 nails per charge. A visual nail reload indicator located on the magazine turns yellow when nail quantities are getting low, to help prevent blank drives.

    Hitachi NT1850DE Finish Nailer

The NT1865DM cordless 16-gauge finish nailer runs 1” to 2-1/2” 16-gauge finish nails, making it the perfect choice for installation of molding, chair rails, cabinetry and other finish applications. Capable of driving up to 1,500 nails per charge, and weighing in at only 7.3 lbs, this cordless finish nailer is among the lightest in its class. A dry fire lock-out feature also prevents the Hitachi NT1865DM finish nailer from activation when the nail count is low.

    Hitachi NT1865DM Finish Nailer

Last, but certainly not least, the NT1865DMA cordless 15-gauge angled finish nailer drives a range of 15-gauge DA type angled finish nails from 1-1/4” to 2-1/2” in length. Not only is the Hitachi NT1865DMA capable of driving up to 1,100 nails per charge, but weighing in at only 7.5 lbs., this cordless finish nailer is also among the lightest in its class. Furthermore, the 34° angle of its magazine allows a user to reach into corners or tight spaces with ease; and an open magazine allows fasteners to be easily viewed, so blank drives can be avoided. As with the 16-gauge model, a dry fire lock-out prevents the NT1865DMA from activation when the nail count is low.

    Hitachi NT1865DMA Angled Finish Nailer

For the contractor, remodeler or weekend warrior seeking a quality cordless finish nailer to deliver convenience and reliable performance, look no further than Hitachi’s all-new cordless, Brushless lithium-ion finish nailers.

  • Top 3 Framing Nailers By Comparison: Senco - Paslode - Hitachi

Construction contractors and building framers expect to get the most from their tools. The same tools they depend on everyday to get a job done on time and on budget - with quality fit and finish. But, which tools guarantee the best bang for your buck? Today, we take a look at Nail Gun Depot's top three framing nailers by customer choice. We'll get up-close and personal with each of these framing guns, looking at similarities and differences, all while offering a comprehensive profile for each featured tool.

    Construction Framing

Today's lineup comes from three core brands in the framing industry: Senco, Paslode and Hitachi.

    Senco FramePro 325XP

We start with the Senco FramePro 325XP (4Z0101N). Featuring a lightweight and compact design, this Senco excels in all applications relevant to framing, sheathing, truss building, sub-flooring and deck building. Designed to drive clipped head, paper tape strip framing nails,  this air-powered framing nailer was engineered to fit between studs and joists with ease - and it shows. This Senco framing nailer is easy to handle and maneuver, perfect for tricky corners and tight working conditions.

    FramePro325XPAction1

Oh, and did we mention it also uses less air to drive nails to their proper depth? Pair that with Senco's "TrueDrive" magazine, which reduces jams and mis-feeds, and we bet you'll fall in love at first drive. Senco backs the FramePro 325XP with a five-year XtremePro limited warranty, for added peace of mind.

    Paslode CF325XP

Next, let's take a look at Paslode's third-generation CF325 cordless framing nailer, the CF325XP (905600). Replacing the previous generation CF325-Li (902600), Paslode's latest version of its hit cordless framing nailer definitely lives up to expectation - if not exceeding. As we've come to love with previous generation models, no hose or compressor is required - simply slide the tool's lithium ion battery into place, insert a Paslode orange framing fuel cell, and you're up and running. You'll find this Paslode framing nailer features all the great benefits of its predecessor, but with a generous 15% increase in driving power, low temperature usability (tool works in conditions down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit when using all-season fuel cell), and up to 50% longer run time per battery charge. Eligible for Paslode's 2 Year Service Promise [when registered properly with Paslode], and paired with a five-year limited warranty out-of-box, peace of mind shouldn't be an issue with this Paslode nailer.

    Paslode_CF325XP_App

Other features you'll enjoy on the Paslode 905600 include aggressive teeth for toe nailing, compact design (fits between 16″ o.c. studs, joists and roof trusses), battery standby, tool-free depth of drive adjustment, utility hook, nail lockout to prevent blank drives, and a stainless steel magazine raceway for improved durability and easy loading.

    Hitachi NR90AE(S1)

Last, but certainly not least, Hitachi recently launched their NR90AE(S1), which stacks up almost feature for feature with the previous NR90AEPR model. The difference? Look for a refreshed head guard design with exterior head bolts. The new head guard now allows for easier disassembly, which reduces downtime for maintenance. Like its competition above, the NR90AE(S1) is backed by a five-year warranty through Hitachi Tools. And at 7.5lbs, this Hitachi framing nailer is one of the lightest in its class - perfect for preventing user fatigue when used in long-duration projects. The NR90AE(S1) features a selective action trigger, two-piece aluminum magazine to minimize repair expenses, sawtooth safety for maximum grip, and tool free adjustable depth of drive.

    NR90AE(S1) Angle

As expected, the Hitachi NR90AE(S1) plastic strip framing nailer is great for framing, sheathing, truss building, sub-flooring, decking, fencing and pallet assembly. A true construction contractor's dream... and then some.

    Final Results

Now that we've looked at our top three picks for framing, which nail gun should you choose?

If you're looking to cut the cord, we definitely recommend the Paslode CF325XP, as it offers time-tested reliability and industry-leading performance. But, for those who want quality without the extra expense of a cordless nailer, consider the Hitachi NR90AE(S1). The Hitachi offers contractor-grade quality at an affordable price - which is why we tend to see so many of them on the job for years and years. And, we couldn't forget the Senco FramePro 325XP, which is a best-seller on Nail Gun Depot. Packed with popular features, priced to sell, and backed by Senco's five-year XtremePro warranty - there's a reason why so many customers swear by the Senco 325XP.

    The decision is yours.
