  • Corded Power – Cordless Freedom – Dewalt FLEXVOLT

The folks at Dewalt have outdone themselves again, introducing an entirely new line of cordless batteries – coined the FLEXVOLT System. The first of their kind, these Dewalt batteries feature an intelligent design, capable of changing voltage when you change tools. The FLEXVOLT system is compatible with 20V MAX, 60V MAX and 120V MAX tools.

    FlexVolt Lightning

The Dewalt DCB606 20V/60V MAX FLEXVOLT 6.0 Ah battery pack is designed with fifteen 4V MAX cells. Designed to run in either parallel or series mode, this battery is currently the most versatile in its class. In parallel mode, three sets of five cells connect in a parallel circuit. Each set provides 2 Ah (Amp Hour). Keep in mind, Ah is the amount of energy charge in a battery. This mode gives you a total of 20V MAX and 6 Ah for an increased run time.

    FLEXVOLT Chart

The FLEXVOLT battery is engineered to run four times longer than a compact 20V MAX battery. To see a quick video demonstration of FLEXVOLT, click here.

    Dewalt FlexVolt Text Promo

The series mode works a bit different. All 15 cells connect in a series to provide power for 60V MAX tools. The DCB606 automatically switches to this mode when you slide it into Dewalt’s 60V MAX brushless tools.

    parallel_battery

The DCB606 battery pack can power all Dewalt 20V MAX cordless tools, including the DCN693B cordless metal connector nailer (DCN693M1 model if purchased with 20V battery), DCN692B cordless framing nailer (DCN692M1 model if purchased with 20V battery), DCN660B cordless finish nailer (DCN660D1 if purchased with 20V battery), as well as 60V and 120V MAX cordless tools. Additional features on this FLEXVOLT battery include an LED display that shows you the state of charge, single piece cell holder, and durable construction.

    series_battery

For a quick, 60-minute charge of the FLEXVOLT battery, we recommend the Dewalt DCB118 fan-cooled fast charger. This battery charger is compatible with all 20V MAX batteries.

    FLEXVOLT HD 6AH Battery

Dewalt has combined the power of corded with the freedom of cordless. Not just convenient, longer run time and more power translates to increased productivity and revenue. The FLEXVOLT system eliminates the constant hassle of charging and recharging your batteries, reducing downtime significantly. The Dewalt DCB606 is now available for pre-order only, with an anticipated release toward the end of August 2016.

Will you power up with FLEXVOLT?

  • Paslode Transitions To Lithium-Ion Cordless Power

Remember when Paslode first released its industry-changing cordless Impulse nailers? Nailing was never the same.

Yet again, Paslode is raising the stakes, taking their cordless nailers into the 21st Century with lithium-ion power. Just like before, each Paslode cordless tool still requires a fuel cell to operate; but now offers better range and improved ergonomics. The transition was recently completed, when Paslode released their IM200-Li cordless brad nailer.

    Paslode IM200-Li

"Why Choose Paslode Cordless? Paslode Cordless offers durable and lightweight solutions to your everyday work. Not only does Paslode Cordless offer more balance and control, but it was made to withstand the tough jobsite conditions. Paslode Cordless Systems were built to keep up with you." ~ Paslode.com

    Paslode IM250S-Li

Let's take a closer look at the full Paslode Li-Ion cordless lineup:

When it comes to framing, Paslode's cordless framing nailer has enjoyed one of the longest running success stories in the business. The current generation Paslode CF325XP, which recently replaced the CF325-Li, offers the same benefits as its predecessor, but with 15% increased driving power, low temperature usability (tool works in conditions down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit - when using all-season orange fuel cell), and up to 50% longer run time per battery charge. Eligible for Paslode's 2 Year Service Promise, the CF325XP (905600) is also backed by a standard five-year warranty. This Paslode framing nailer is tried, tested - and now better than ever before.

    Paslode CF325XP

Paslode doesn't stop with framing. Now boasting a full line of Li-Ion cordless finish and trim nailers, the Paslode brand has come full circle. Choose between a 16 gauge straight IM250S-Li (916000), 16 gauge angled IM250A-Li (902400), and the most recent addition - an 18 gauge brad nailer IM200-Li (918000). All lithium-ion - all ready to work.

    Paslode 916000

Like the CF325XP, these Paslode Li-Ion cordless finish nailers are lighter weight (easier to carry and use), can be recharged quicker, and hold their charge for a longer range of time. Don't forget, these Paslode cordless finish nailers do still require a small yellow fuel cell to operate.

Paslode Cordless Nail Gun Depot Promotion

To celebrate this milestone, for a limited time get a FREE Paslode Yellow Finish Fuel (816007) or Orange Framing Fuel Cell (816008), when purchasing ANY Paslode lithium-ion framing or finish nailer on Nail Gun Depot. Deal starts Friday (7/22/16) and runs while supplies last.

  • What Cordless Nail Gun Should I Buy?

It's hard to ignore the increasing presence of cordless tools coming to market. Today, let's take a look at those different types of cordless nailers. We'll look at brand, product application, and variation(s) of cordless technology available. Let's start by breaking down the core categories of cordless.

    Senco Cordless Battery

Framing Nailers & Metal Connecting Nailers

Cordless framing nailers have improved quite a bit since the first Paslode Impulse tool was released in July of 1986 - nearly 30 years ago to the day. Today, Paslode cordless tools have improved in every possible way: lighter body, longer battery life, quicker recharge time and more. The CF325XP (905600) is Paslode's current contender in a long running legacy of cordless framing tools. Powered by lithium-ion battery and orange framing fuel cell, the CF325XP is designed for heavy-duty, everyday use.

    Paslode CF325XP

While Paslode has dominated this segment of the market for many years, another key player is quickly gaining notoriety for their contractor-grade cordless technology. That's right, we're talking about our friends at Dewalt. Currently on their second generation lithium-ion framing tool, Dewalt's MAX XR battery boasts more power and longevity than ever before. Dewalt has also managed to eliminate the need for a fuel cell, without compromising performance. Dewalt's system is as simple as plug-and-play. With the recent release of their DCN693M1 cordless metal connecting nailer - the first of its kind - we've got a hunch this won't be the last cordless nailer from Dewalt.

    Our Recommendation:

If you don't mind occasionally replacing a fuel cell, Paslode has led cordless framing sales for decades. For tried and tested quality, Paslode is a sure shot.

    Dewalt DCN693 App

If you're looking for the latest technology, there's no doubt that Dewalt offers a game changer. The MAX XR battery system eliminates the need for fuel cell, and offers improved driving force and length of time between charging cycles.

    Finish & Brad Nailers

Unlike the cordless framing market, you'll see a lot more competition when comparing cordless finish and trim nailers. Two main factors dictate the widespread growth for this segment of the industry - market share and tool design. Generally speaking, the market for finish and trim nailers is infinite. Between contractors, weekend warriors, and woodworking hobbyists, there is always a demand for finish nailers. Paired with the fact they require much less energy to drive small finish or brad nails into place, you have a recipe for success.

    Grex Cordless Comparison Side-By-Side

Just like the framing nailers above, most cordless finish nailers come in the same two variations, either with fuel cell and battery, or powered by battery only. Grex recently launched the GC1850 cordless brad nailer, which is powered by fuel cell and AAA battery power only! Don't worry about constantly replacing those AAA's in the Grex either, this cordless brad nailer is rated to run up to 50,000 shots per battery cycle.

Looking at fuel cell finish nailers, Paslode once again leads the industry with its lineup of lithium-ion tools. Introduced to replace the aging line of Paslode Impulse nailers, these new lithium-ion powered tools are lean and efficient. The most recent addition to Paslode is their all-new 18 gauge brad nailer, the IM200Li (918000). Featuring several benefits over its predecessor, the Paslode IM200-F18 (901000), the IM200Li lithium-ion brad nailer offers a lightweight design, long-range battery life, battery standby position to conserve charge, tool free depth adjustment, reversible belt hook, and no mar tip - among other benefits.

    Dewalt DCN660D1 App

Moving away from the fuel cell, Senco and Dewalt continue to battle for control of the battery-only market. A long-time leader in innovation, the Senco Fusion is available in four cordless variations ranging from 15 gauge finish nailer down to 18 gauge brad nailer. The Senco Fusion cordless system continues to receive praise for its innovative features and proprietary design. However, Dewalt recently answered the demand for better, more powerful batteries when they introduced the 20V MAX lithium-ion battery pack. Built to compete with Senco's Fusion, we've seen a growing demand for Dewalt's new product(s) - which includes their DCN660D1 16 gauge cordless finish nailer.

    The Verdict:

Only time will tell the ultimate winners in this extremely competitive segment of cordless tools. As new technology continues to emerge, we expect to see several new products come to market in the next calendar year. We also predict a full transition to lithium-ion batteries, for those brands still offering NiCad models or similar.

    Senco Fusion F-15

And, if you're a diehard air tool enthusiast, there's good news for you too. Despite advancements in cordless technology, we don't foresee pneumatic tools fading into the abyss any time soon. With a network of contractors and tradesmen that swear by pneumatic nailers and staplers, we have a hunch these tools will also benefit from enhanced technology and performance.

    So, would you consider cordless?

  • Fence Stapler Showdown - Freeman PFS9 vs. Fasco F46

For several years, the fence stapling market has been dominated by few select brands. Recently, this niche industry received some new competition, as Freeman Tools introduced their PFS9 fence stapler. The Freeman fence stapler offers many of the same features as its Paslode and Fasco counterparts - but at a fraction of the cost. Today, we're going to put the Freeman PFS9 head-to-head with its closest rival, the Fasco F46 40-315 pneumatic fence stapler.

    Fasco Fence Banner

Arguably one of the most recognizable tools in fence stapling, the Fasco F46 has earned a spot at the top of its class. Loaded with options that include a well-balanced and lightweight design, powerful motor for hardwood applications, form fitting nose designed for wire fence installation, on board adjustable depth of drive, and a comfortable non-slip rubber hand grip - this Fasco bundles a professional setup with tried and tested quality.

    Fasco F46 Fence Stapler

A new kid on the block, Freeman Tools' PFS9 fencing stapler is quickly gaining notoriety as key competition - earning its own spot toward the top. Very similar to the Fasco F46 pneumatic fence stapler, the Freeman Tools PFS9 is designed specifically for applications in livestock fencing, field fencing, horse fencing and heavy mesh fencing - among other similar uses with wire fencing. This fence stapler features a magnesium housing, one-piece drive blade, adjustable depth of drive, 360 adjustable exhaust, air filter, quick-jam release, T-handle (for added control), top load magazine, wire alignment notch, belt hook, and comes with plastic carrying case.

    Freeman PFS9

So, what are the major differences between a Freeman and Fasco fence stapler?

    • PRICE: Considerably the strongest factor in dictating which of the two tools you purchase, the Freeman PFS9 is less than half the cost of a Fasco F46 fence stapler. Currently on Nail Gun Depot for $349, compare Freeman to the $769 price tag for its Fasco counterpart.

    • WARRANTY: Don't be fooled, the low price on Freeman's fence stapler doesn't necessarily translate to a lower build quality. To make that known, the PFS9 is backed by a seven-year limited warranty. In comparison, Fasco's F46 fence stapler comes with a standard one-year manufacturer's warranty.

    Freeman PFS9 Fence Stapler

THE VERDICT: The fact is, both staple guns have their merits. If you're looking for a tool that comes with several years of industry use, recognition and praise, we'd recommend the Fasco F46 fence stapler. For those shopping on budget, or who are only planning to use their fence stapler periodically, we'd suggest giving the Freeman PFS9 a shot. With a seven-year warranty and significantly lower price, it's hard not to give Freeman a second look.

  • Dewalt Connects Success - Cuts The Cord Again

The folks at Dewalt are at it again, now to offer North America's first-ever cordless metal connector nailer. Dewalt's hot-new tool for Summer 2016, introducing the DCN693 series cordless metal hardware nailer.

    Dewalt DCN693 App

Available in two variations, the DCN693M1 comes complete with 20V Lithium-Ion XR Series battery and charger - while the DCN693B gets you the bare tool without battery and charger.

The first of its kind, Dewalt's DCN693M1 cordless metal connecting nailer matches its competition in range, driving 1-1/2” to 2-1/2” 35 degree paper tape metal connector nails. In the same manner as Dewalt's other li-ion nailers, the DCN693 requires no fuel cell to operate - simply snap the charged battery into place and start firing.

    Dewalt DCN693 Features Diagram

Other features on the Dewalt DCN693 include selectable firing modes (choose between sequential and RapidCycle modes), nail selector switch (easy switch between 1-1/2” and 2-1/2” nails), tool-free adjustable rafter hook, and dry-fire lockout. A RapidCycle mode keeps the motor running for faster follow-up shots.

    Dewalt DCN693 Action

This cordless joist nailer includes tool-free depth of drive adjustment, which is quite handy if you find yourself frequently adjusting nail depth for different materials. A stall release lever allows you to release the driver blade in case of nail jam. The DCN693 even comes with an on board hex key for easy magazine removal.

Another nifty tech feature, this cordless metal connecting nail gun features LED warning lights to alert the user when their tool stalls or the battery is low. Round things out with a speed selector switch, which lets you easily adjust the tool for different nail lengths, and you have the latest innovation from Dewalt.

    Metal Connector Types

As with other similar tools, Dewalt's DCN693 metal connector nailer is excellent for joist hangers, stud plate ties, hurricane ties, hold down straps and post bases. While we're yet to see some specific ratings from Dewalt, such as battery range and magazine capacity, we anticipate battery life will be similar to the Dewalt DCN692 cordless framing nailer. Although a specific release date is not yet available, preliminary estimates suggest you'll see the DCN693M1 and DCN693B in-stock by early summer.

So, would you give this cordless nailer a try? Let us know what you think.

  • A New Way To Do Decking - Senco's Deck Clip System

It's finally time to shed the winter layers and get back outside. For many, the start of May means the start to decking season - and depending on Winter's wear and tear, that might also mean it's time to give your deck some much needed TLC. If you're considering upgrading your deck, there's a new product on the market you don't want to miss - Senco's Mantis hidden deck clip system.

    Senco Mantis SHD150XP

A relatively new concept to the deck building industry, hidden fastening systems are leading an increasingly popular trend in decking. The new Senco-Mantis system is no exception.

    Senco Mantis Deck Clips

Senco's system can be utilized in two ways, either by driving individual screws into their respective Mantis deck clip (with use of screwdriver motor), or by using the all-new SHD150XP (9D0001N) collated nailer, which drives 1-1/2" collated reversible fasteners into the Mantis hidden deck clip.

    Senco Hidden Deck System

Designed for use with composite, PVC and other grooved deck boards, Senco's hidden deck fasteners employ a three-clip system. A starter clip is used to get the first board locked into place, which then allows the Mantis clip to secure all remaining boards into position. When reaching the final board, finishing clips complete the installation.

    Senco Deckclip Installation

For those that opt to use the collated fasteners, the Senco SHD150XP looks like most other paper tape nailers, but is designed specifically for use with this Senco deck clip system. A patented EZ slide attachment will guide and align the Mantis deck clips into their proper place. When compared to conventional installation equipment, the SHD150XP is easier to handle - and improves productivity up to 80 percent. This pneumatic decking gun also features an industrial strength magnet to keep the deck clip in place, dry-fire lockout, sequential actuation, tool-free adjustable exhaust reflector and adjustable rafter hook. Bundle that with a five-year limited warranty to keep your tool on the job.

    Senco 9D0001N Deckclip Nailer
